Pommelo

Pommelo (Citrus grandis)  belonging to the Rutaceae family is the largest Citrus fruit. The fruits are large and often grow upto the size of a human head. They have a pleasant flavor and taste which is neither sour nor bitter.  There are pink fleshed and white fleshed varieties. The flesh is eaten raw along with salt and chilli / pepper. The peel is used for making marmalade or candied.  The fruits are also used in pickles. Pomelo juices and pomelo-flavored juice drink mixes are also common in S.E. Asia. Pomelos are usually grafted onto other citrus rootstocks, but can be grown from seed, provided the seeds are not allowed to dry out before planting. The seedlings take approximately 8 years to start
