Pomegranate(Punica granatum) belongs to Punicaceae family. It is found in both  tropical and sub tropical regions and is a popular table fruit of the world.
Soil and climate: It is grown in a wide range of soils; drought resistant and tolerant to salinity and alkalinity. Cool winter and dry summer are necessary for the production of high quality fruits. It performs well upto 1800 m elevation.
Varieties: Jyothi, Ganesh, CO 1, YCD 1,Bhaguva,  Araktha, Rudhra and Mirudhula.

Planting material: Rooted cuttings or layers. Vijaya Phyto Farms Pvt. Ltd. produces ‘ready made’ (ready to bear plants) pomegranate planting material that are capable of producing commercial yield from II year of planting

Spacing: Pit size of 60 cm x 60 cm x 60 cm at 2.5 to 3 m spacing either way.

Irrigation: Copious irrigation is required during fruiting season for better fruit development and to avoid fruit cracking..

Manures and fertilizers: The productivity can be increased by manures and fertilizer  application (both macro and micro nutrients)

Training: Multi-stem system(3-4 stems)

Pruning: Annual pruning on all sides is done after harvest is completed to promote new shoots during December by shortening of past season shoot by removing one third of the shoot. The dried, diseased and cross-cross branches and root suckers are removed.

Pests: The major pests of Pomegranate are Aphids and Fruit Borer.

Yield: 17 tonnes / ha/year. Under high density plantation 25 tonnes/ ha
