Karonda (Carissa carandas) is an evergreen, spiny shrub native to  India belonging to the family Apocynaceae. It is very hardy and drought  tolerant commonly grown as a hedge plant. The fruits are an excellent source of iron and Vitamin C. They are antiscorbutic and useful for curing  scurvy and Anaemia. Mature fruits have good pectin content and used in the preparation of jelly,jam, squash, syrup, chutney and pickle.

The heavily branched roots of this plant makes it suitable for strengthening eroding slopes.
